Here's your chance to learn a little more about Gary Aiko. Here are some well-known and not so well-known facts about him.

  1. Gary was once a linesman for the Hawaiian Electric Company.
  2. Gary likes jogging and long-distance walking.
  3. Gary once owned a 2.75 acre ranch outside of Honolulu where he raised horses.
  4. Gary learned from and played polo with Al Lopaka, Waikiki lounge singer in the 70s & 80s.
  5. He preferred riding bare back on a horse.
  6. Gary traveled and sang with Haunani Kahalewai in the early 60s.
  7. He was in Don Ho's group at the original Honey's in Kaneohe. The group consisted of Don, Gary, Sonny Chillingworth, Mike Garcia, Tony Bee and for a short time Lani Kai ("Shells") and Alex Among.
  8. Gary is a featured singer with the Royal Hawaiian Band.
  9. He entered a radio contest and won every week so the producers told him that he could not enter anymore.
  10. Gary likes anything made with a leopard skin look.
  11. Gary loves to eat Jello.
  12. Gary can sing in Portuguese, Japanese, Spanish, Italian, Filipino, Tahitian as well as in English and Hawaiian.
  13. In 1992 Gary traveled with Auntie Genoa to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to sing at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), also known as the Earth Summit.
  14. Although Gary's primary instrument is the bass he can also play the ukulele and guitar.
  15. He studied steel guitar for a short while with international artist Jerry Byrd.
  16. Gary was a member of the Hawaii Calls cast.
  17. Gary also appeared as a musician in the 2009 movie "Princess Kaiulani".
  18. Gary traveled extensively to Japan in the 70s and 80s with Ethelynne Teves, Louise Freeman, Myrtle Hilo and Jeff Kealaokala Teves as members of the Aloha Airlines Promo team. They performed at the Keio Plaza Hotel every summer for several years.
